Tobacco companies have a long history of targeting African Americans with their media messages. These efforts to target African Americans have resulted in tragic health disparities. Today, African Americans suffer disproportionately from tobacco-related death and disease. Brands like Newport and KOOL have been particularly successful in targeting African Americans. A new generation of tobacco companies are following the same playbook. Companies that sell cigars and blunt wraps are finding ways to promote themselves to young African Americans, in particular. One tobacco company, Trendsettah, Inc. promotes their flavored cigars (Splitarillos) and blunt wraps (Hood Wraps) through commercials and music videos on YouTube. Check out the video above.
